Tool from Handmade Pricing
Handmade price calculator
Add what goes into one piece and how long it takes. You get what it costs you to make, a wholesale price and a retail price.
How the price is built
Materials, line by line. Each material is priced from the pack you bought. Pack cost times the amount used, divided by the pack quantity. Wire bought as 10 m for $45.00 with 0.6 m used costs $2.70 in this piece.
Labour. Your hourly rate times the minutes, divided by 60. Forty minutes at $15.00 an hour is $10.00. Pay yourself a real rate, or the price only works while you work for free.
Unit cost. Materials plus labour plus overheads. This is break-even, the least you can sell one for without losing money.
Wholesale and retail. Wholesale is the unit cost plus your wholesale markup. Retail is the wholesale price plus the retail markup, because a shop that buys at wholesale needs room for its own margin. The common handmade rule is to double cost for wholesale and double wholesale for retail.
What it assumes
- Amounts are rounded to the cent at each step, half up, the same way the Handmade Pricing app does it.
- The currency menu changes the symbol only. Nothing is converted.
- Selling fees, tax, shipping, craft fair booth fees and batches are in the app, not in this calculator.
Prices handmade items by itemizing every material, your time, overheads and markup.
