Narra - Privacy Policy

Effective date: 14 October 2026

Narra - Web Novel Reader is an Android app, published by BotSquash, that reads web pages aloud with voices that run on your phone. This policy explains how the app handles your information. Short version: no account and no sign-in. We do not collect personal data and we run no servers for the app. Your library, history and settings stay on your phone (Android may include them in your device backup, see Backups). The free version shows ads from Unity Ads, which uses your advertising ID under its own policy; Narra Pro has no ads. Details below.

Narra does not collect personal data itself, has no account, and has no servers of its own. We cannot see what you read or listen to. The outside parties involved are the websites you choose to open, the public hosts that serve voice downloads, Unity Ads (free version only) and Google Play (billing and distribution), all described below.

What stays on your device

The built-in browser and websites you open

Narra's browser loads the websites you choose, like any browser. Those sites see your IP address, may set cookies and may show their own ads, under their own privacy policies, which we do not control. To keep playback going between chapters, Narra may load the next chapters of the story you are listening to, from the same site, in the background, and may load a story's contents page once to list its chapters. If you type words that are not a web address into the address bar, they are sent to the DuckDuckGo search engine under DuckDuckGo's privacy policy.

Voice downloads

If you choose to download a voice, the files are fetched from their public download locations on GitHub and Hugging Face. Like any web request, those hosts see your phone's IP address while the download runs. Nothing about you or your reading is sent with the request.

Backups

Ads (free version only)

The free version of Narra shows ads from Unity Ads (Unity Technologies). Ads are never shown while audio plays, in the browser, on the lock screen, or in Narra Pro. To show ads, the Unity SDK may collect your advertising ID, device and network information, ad interactions (such as impressions and taps) and diagnostic information, and may share them with its ad partners, for advertising, measurement and fraud prevention. This data goes to Unity, not to us. It is described in Unity's Game Player and App User Privacy Policy.

Purchases (Narra Pro)

The optional Narra Pro upgrade is sold through Google Play Billing. Google processes the payment under the Google Privacy Policy. We never see your card or payment details. The app only receives the purchase status and purchase token from Google Play, to know whether Pro is active, and keeps no copy of your purchases on any server of ours.

Analytics and crash reporting

Narra has no analytics and no crash-reporting service of its own. If that changes, this policy will be updated before the change is released. Google Play itself may give us aggregated, anonymous statistics such as installs and crash counts.

Permissions

Your rights (GDPR / EEA, UK and Switzerland users)

Narra itself holds no personal data about you: no account and no server-side profile. Data handled by Unity (ads) and Google (billing, backup) is processed by them under their own policies. You have the right of access, erasure, objection and to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority. In Cyprus that is the Office of the Commissioner for Personal Data Protection. For data held by Unity or Google, use their own privacy controls; for anything else, contact us below.

Deleting your data

Children

Narra is not directed at children and is intended for people aged 13 and over. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 13. The built-in browser can open any website, so younger users should be supervised.

Content

Narra hosts no stories. It reads aloud pages you can already open yourself. If you believe a page's content is being used in a way that infringes your rights, contact us and tell us the site address.

Changes

If this policy changes, the "Effective date" above will change and the change will be noted in the app's release notes. Continued use of the app means you accept the current policy.
