Miqat: Prayer Times - Privacy Policy

Last updated: 14 October 2026

Miqat (Miqat: Prayer Times & Qibla) is a prayer-times app published by BotSquash. Short version: what you do in Miqat - where you are, what you have prayed, what you have read - stays on your phone, and we never receive any of it. The free version shows one small banner ad from Unity Ads, on four screens only. Anyone who has bought the memorisation feature sees no ads.

The app goes online for two things only. Your location, prayer record, tasbih counts, Qur'an progress and backups are never attached to either, and are never sent to Unity or to anyone else.

What we collect

Nothing, ourselves. Miqat has no account, no sign-in, no analytics or crash reporting of our own, and no server of ours. Nothing you enter reaches us. The ad provider described under "Ads" collects some data directly, in the free version only.

Prayer times are calculated, not fetched

Your prayer times and the Qibla direction come from astronomy and geometry: your latitude, your longitude and the date, worked out on the phone itself. Your coordinates are never sent anywhere - not to us, not to a prayer-times service, not to Unity, not to anyone. Prayer times, Qibla, the Qur'an, tasbih, the calendar and prayer alerts all work with no connection at all.

What the app stores on your device

All of this lives in the app's own private storage on your phone, is never shared with the ad provider, and is deleted when you uninstall the app:

WhatWhy
Your chosen place, or a coarse location if you ask the app to find youTo calculate prayer times and the Qibla
Calculation settings - method, Asr, adjustments, Hijri offsetSo your times match your mosque
Your prayer record, make-up counts and fasting recordBecause you ticked them
Qur'an bookmarks, last-read position and reading settingsTo open where you left off
Tasbih counts, zakat figures, memorisation plans and progressThe features themselves
An audio file you choose as a prayer soundCopied into the app so Android can play it. Deleted when no prayer uses it
Your "Personalised ads" choiceSo the app can pass it to Unity when a banner loads

Android's own cloud backup is switched off for Miqat, so none of this is copied to Google Drive. Moving to a new phone means using the app's own backup file (More › Backup and restore), which you save where you choose. The app never uploads it. That file is plain text: anyone who opens it can read it, so keep it somewhere private.

Location

Location is optional and coarse. You can type or pick your city instead, permanently, and the app is fully usable that way. If you do grant location, the fix is used on the phone to work out prayer times and the Qibla and to name the place, and is stored on the phone. It is never transmitted, and it is never given to the ad provider.

Ads (free version only)

The free version of Miqat shows one small banner ad from Unity Ads (Unity Technologies), and only on these four screens:

There are no ads on Today or the prayer times, the Qur'an, Qibla, Tasbih, the calendar or alerts, and none in notifications or home-screen widgets. There are no full-screen ads anywhere in the app.

The memorisation feature is a one-time purchase, and buying it removes ads permanently. Once Google Play has confirmed the purchase, the ad SDK is not started.

In the free version, on those four screens, the Unity SDK may collect and process:

Unity may share this data with its ad partners, for advertising, measurement, analytics and fraud prevention. This data goes to Unity, not to us. Your location, prayer record, tasbih counts, Qur'an progress and backups are never shared with Unity. See Unity's Game Player and App User Privacy Policy.

The optional purchase

The memorisation feature is a one-time purchase that also removes ads. Google Play handles the payment in full: the app never sees your card, your address or your Google account. It asks Play a single question - whether this device owns the product - and caches the answer locally so the feature keeps working offline.

Analytics and tracking

Miqat contains no analytics, crash reporting or tracking of our own. The only third-party SDK that collects data is Unity Ads in the free version, as described above.

Permissions, and what each is for

PermissionUsed for
INTERNETThe Play purchase check, and loading the Unity Ads banner in the free version.
AD_IDLets the Unity Ads SDK read your advertising ID in the free version, as described under "Ads".
ACCESS_COARSE_LOCATIONOptional. Working out prayer times and the Qibla where you are, on the phone. Coarse only - a prayer time does not change across a city.
POST_NOTIFICATIONS, SCHEDULE_EXACT_ALARM, VIBRATE, WAKE_LOCKDelivering prayer alerts at the right minute.
RECEIVE_BOOT_COMPLETEDRe-arming those alerts after the phone restarts; without it they stop silently.
ACCESS_NETWORK_STATE, FOREGROUND_SERVICERequired by the scheduling library that keeps the alert list up to date; the ad SDK also uses network state to check for a connection.
BILLINGThe optional purchase.

Children

Miqat is not directed at children. We collect nothing that identifies anyone, of any age.

Your rights and deleting your data

There is no account to delete and no data of yours held by us to hand over, correct or erase - everything the app stores is on your phone and under your control. Uninstalling the app removes all of it. Clearing the app's storage in Android settings does the same without uninstalling. For data held by Unity, reset your advertising ID as described above or contact Unity through its privacy policy.

Changes

If this policy changes, the date at the top changes with it, and any change that adds a new kind of data or a new recipient will be described here before the version that makes it is released. (Version 1.2.0 briefly included a Google AdMob banner, removed in 1.2.1; the Unity Ads banner described above is the only ad in the app.)
